According to the Asociación de Empresarios de Nerja (AEN), local businesses suffered a decline in trade of around 10% during the summer when compared to last year.
The results are apparently better than had been expected given the general financial crisis.
Membership of the AEN currently stands at 320, and within this there is also the Centro Comercial Abierto de Nerja (CCAN), which consists of businesses operating in the heart of Nerja. Membership of the CCAN has declined over the past year, falling from 120 to 95 members.
The AEN is already preparing for the next holiday period with all sorts of campaign from raffles to loyalty cards and free parking.
