Two people have been arrested following a spate of robberies on various beaches in Nerja during the past few weeks.
The thefts were causing alarm for hostelry establishments in the area as well as for visiting tourists. The thief was making use of the rocky inlets along the coast to hide and watch for potential victims, disappearing again once he had relieved people of a few valuables.
The thief was also using a mountain bike to move from one beach to another, with thefts being carried out on El Salón, Calahonda, Carabeíllo, Carabeo and Burriana beaches.
Having ascertained the modus operandi of the thief, police were able to monitor the beaches and eventually make the arrests.
A search of the home of R.B.F. and his partner in crime E.M.H. revealed a stash of video cameras, jewellery, watches, mobile phones, cameras, sunglasses, handbags and backpacks. The items were being sold either to acquaintances or to secondhand stores.
The thieves have so far been charged with 3 counts of robbery with force, 9 counts of larceny, 22 counts of theft and 1 count of receiving stolen goods.
