The current good weather has encouraged many tourists, particularly domestic, to head for the beaches during the long, Pilar holiday weekend and hoteliers are reporting that occupancy rates are well above those of last year.
In some areas, hotel occupancy has been over 90% a significant increase over last year. The beaches of Andalucía have been particularly busy.
The Minister of Tourism, Luciano Alonso, believes these positive signs of recovery are the fruits of various government promotional campaigns, although there will be some argument on that one. The weather has certainly been a major factor.
