Torrox Council has submitted a draft proposal for an ambitious project to construct a sort of marine theme park at the mouth of the Rio Torrox close to El Faro, the lighthouse.
The project is intended to revitalise this area of the municipality and the park would be built on a 60,000 square metre plot.
Amongst the attractions to be included in this project are a museum, a diving school, auditorium, exhibition hall, observatory, miniport, archaeological museum, theme pavilions, restaurants, including one on a ship anchored off the lighthouse, aquarium, farm, park water, yacht clubs, parks, boardwalk, hotels, homes and pedestrian bridges.
The project would be funded by private investment as well as contributions from the provincial, regional and central government and the estimated cost is in the region of €10 million.
The area has already been the subject of investment by the Junta de Andalucía with €3 million being used for the recent installation of jetties on the banks of the river.
