It is a strange society we are developing if these and other types of incident become more prevalent. In this case, thank goodness for the common sense of individuals.
While there is always a question of sensationalism in some areas of the press, such incidents do appear to be on the increase and it all tends to fall all under the so-called banner of ‘health and safety’.
In line with national guidelines negotiated and agreed by Unison, which must be adhered to by all ambulance trusts nationally under the Agenda for Change scheme, it is important that all staff have dedicated 30 minute rest breaks, which cannot be interrupted.
The South Western Ambulance Service Trust defended its decision and said it took its statutory health and safety duties very seriously.
