In Jaén province, administrators, Unions and agricultural organisations have made it clear that foreign labour is not required for this year’s olive harvest.
This message has been spread throughout Spain to try and prevent the usual influx of foreign migrant workers who flock to the province for the start of the harvest.
Olive oil production is expected to be around 500,000 tons and will require the labour of some 75,000 people but any shortfall will be made up from the ranks of the unemployed.
