A judge at the Court of Instruction in Almería has ordered the Mayor of El Ejido, the Municipal Auditor and a company representative to be detained in prison without possibility of bail.
The judge, Montserrat Peña, has been hearing declarations by those detained in ‘Operation Poniente’, an investigation into money laundering, embezzlement, forgery, bribery, influence peddling and general corruption in El Ejido.
Those remanded in custody are the Mayor, Juan Enciso, the Municipal Auditor, José Alemán and a representative of the company Gestora Ejidense, Ambrosio Cuevas.
Others have been granted the possibility of bail, and these include the Mayor’s brother-in-law, Francisco Javier A.C, the brother of the Municipal Auditor, Enrique A. and various other family members.
