Nine people, including the Mayor of Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Bartomeu Muñoz, have so far been arrested in the latest corruption investigation.
The investigation is being carried out under the direction of judge Baltasar Garzón and also relates to the BBVA-Privanza case 2005 which involved money laundering and salting away funds to offshore tax havens.
At 10:00 on Tuesday morning, fifteen police officers entered the Town Hall in Santa Coloma to collect records and make a few arrests. The Mayor himself was not on the premises, apparently off sick, but they caught up with him later.
The detainees are making their declarations before a judge and further arrests are not being ruled out.
