Headache, stress, sleeplessness are all the consequence of excessive noise within communities and can, according to the EU, lead to cardiovascular problems.
Excessive noise is apparently a problem in 34% of households in Málaga province, even more so in large population centres such as Málaga city and Marbella where the figure reaches 41.8%.
The figures are the result of a survey carried out by the Instituto de Estadística de Andalucía (IEA) in 2008.
Traffic and neighbours are the two main sources of noise, followed by mechanical (such as construction work), the botellón, animals and then leisure activities.
