The Mayor of Torre del Mar, Manuel Rincón, has once again been arguing the case for the municipal authority to assume control over fishing for ‘chanquetes’ in the area as a means of curbing poaching.
Around 4,000 kilos of immature fish are caught along the Málaga coast by poachers. The Mayor wants to see a quota of 500 kilos per day introduced while at the same time conducting an investigation into the extent of the poaching.
The ruling government team of PP and IU have, however, been quick to reject the proposal.
