Ten activists from the environmental organisation Greenpeace were arrested today as they tried to stop a coal ship docking and unloading its cargo for a nearby power station.
Four of the activists boarded the collier ‘Federico II’ to prevent it docking and unloading 85,000 tons of coal destined for the Los Barrios (Cádiz) power station. Four others circled the area in a Zodiac and the tenth detainee was a cameraman who was filming the situation.
Greenpeace described their action as ‘peaceful’ and called upon Prime Minister Zapatero to stop financing the coal (or carbon, as it is referred to by Greenpeace) industry which, Greenpeace claims, is the main cause of climate change.
