The DGT has started its latest awareness campaign, coupled with a clampdown, which relates to the use of mobile phones in vehicles.
The campaign continues until November 22nd and controls will be carried out on 600,000 vehicles. Parallel to the surveillance, a media campaign is also running, explaining that using a mobile phone while driving increases the risk of an accident by a factor of four.
The campaign also tackles the false belief that the use of hands-free systems is not distracting, demonstrating that even a one and a half minute call reduces the ability to receive external signals by 40%, speeds up the heart rate and reduces reaction time by 12%, all of which could lead to an accident.
