The proposed new bus station in Alhaurín el Grande could be a reality in 2010 according to the Mayor, Juan Martín Serón, although no contracts have yet been signed.
The project is a result of an agreement between the Council and the Ministry of Works and Transport of the Junta de Andalucía, whereby the City Council contributes the cost of the technical project and solar power and the Junta de Andalucía cover the cost of the building works.
The budget for the project has been set at €1,070,000.
The location of the proposed bus station is a 1,660 square metre plot of land next to the Guardia Civil barracks. The bus station itself will be 175 square metres and will have waiting room, cafeteria, toilets and a newspaper kiosk. The remainder of the land, which is on a slope, will be turned into an urban garden with, amongst other things, palm trees and a pond.
The current thinking is that the agreement could be signed in December which means that the work could be contracted in February 2010 and completed approximately seven months later.
