For the first time in over a decade there will be no pretty Christmas lights on the main shopping streets of Nerja.
The lighting in the commercial streets of the town is funded equally by the Town Hall and the local merchants. However, this year the Council has failed to illicit the support of a sufficient number of local businesses to share the costs and, as a result, the commercial streets will be without Christmas lights.
The Council is, nevertheless, going to provide lighting for a number of monuments in the town, notably the Balcon de Europa, the Town Hall, El Salvador church, Maro church, Plaza La Marina, Plaza Fabrica de los Cangrejos, the entrances to the town and also on three or four roundabouts. The cost to the Council for this is estimated at €40,000.
