Agricultural organisations are hoping that around 30,000 farmers from Andalucia will attend the protest being staged in Madrid tomorrow.
The farmers are protesting against the current state of the farming industry, stating that in the past five years, 40% of farms have had to close with the loss of 124,000 jobs. In the past year alone it is estimated that 12,000 farmworkers lost their livelihood.
The organisers are hoping that the Madrid rally will bring as many as 100,000 members out on the streets to protest. The agricultural organisation Asaja-A has arranged for 230 coaches and 9 AVE high-speed trains to transport its members to Madrid.
Meanwhile, protests are expected today in, amongst other places, Adra, Vícar (Almería), Loja, Baza (Granada), Lepe (Huelva), Alcalá la Real, Villanueva del Arzobispo (Jaén) and Carmona (Sevilla) with tractorcades taking to the streets.
