Rafael Ricardi, who spent thirteen years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit, is seeking €10 million in compensation for the ‘judicial error’ which led to his incarceration.
Rafael Ricardi, from Cádiz, was convicted of rape in October 1996 and sentenced to prison. The Supreme Court overturned the conviction in July 2009 after new evidence emerged that DNA samples from Rafael Ricardi did not match samples taken from the clothing of the victim.
Ricardi’s lawyer says they are prepared to negotiate with the Ministry of Justice to agree compensation.
