The Public Prosecutor for the Department of Environment is asking for a one year prison sentence in each of four cases being brought against the Mayor of Sayalonga, José Luis Navas, for city planning violations.
In addition, the Public Prosecutor is asking for a nine year ineligibilty to hold public office. José Luis Navas has already been sentenced to one year in prison and banned from public office for a further nine years by the Criminal Court in Málaga after being found guilty of urban trespass, a conviction which led the Mayor to resign from office.
Seven other current or former Councillors and four promoters are also being prosecuted for the same offences, but in these cases the sentence being requested is lighter.
