The Nerja Council has made a formal request to the Provincial Delegation of Culture asking them to become economically involved in the restoration of the Eagle Aquaduct near Maro.
The site has been declared ‘of tourist interest’ and there are plans to renovate the aquaduct under the Sustainable Tourism Initiative of the Axarquia (ITS). The project involves an investment of €792,00, with 70% being financed by the Ministry of Tourism and the other 30% by the municipality.
However, Mayor José Alberto Armijo wants the Delegation of Culture to become involved by financing half of the municipality’s share of the costs.
The project is set to go out to tender in 2010 and has a completion period of one year.
