A Guardia Civil officer has been shot and wounded this morning not far from the barracks in the town of Leitza, Navarra province.
The officer was hit twice, once in the arm and once in the chest, although the bullet to the chest was stopped by his bulletproof vest.
It is thought that the officer surprised a couple of terrorists and then became involved in a shootout. It is also thought that one of the terrorists could have been wounded in the incident.
The officer was taken to the Hospital de Navarra in Pamplona where he underwent surgery. His injuries are not said to be life-threatening.
