Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero today guaranteed that not a single website, blog or web page will be closed under the proposed Ley de Economía Sostenible following criticism from various internet groups.
The Government’s idea is to create a Commission on Intellectual Property, which would be responsible for determining whether there is copyright infringement on the network and propose countermeasures.
The Prime Minister stated that the issues causing concern would be addressed in the draft proposal and reiterated that the idea was not to close down a single site, blog or web page but added that this must be compatible with the protection of intellectual property and intellectual creation.
The Deputy Prime Minister, María Teresa Fernández de la Vega, stated that there has always been and always will be judicial control over such matters and it would be a judge who would make any decision or take the appropriate measures.
