Work on the indoor swimming pool in Álora could resume in the first part of 2010 after nearly two years of inactivity and delays.
Álora Council has signed an agreement with the Málaga Provincial Council whereby €230,000 will be provided to enable the works to restart. This is in addition to the budgeted amount of €1.2 million.
The contract for the swimming pool was originally awarded to a joint venture company comprising Climocubierta and Gadicón. However, they only managed to complete 20% of the work before getting into financial difficulties.
Eventually, after all other possibilities were exhausted, the Council was forced to terminate the contract with the consortium.
In addition, various problems with the site have led to increased costs and the initial draft has had to be revised. The new plan envisages a swimming pool occupying 1,881 square metres and being 25 metres long, 12 metres wide and with 6 lanes.
It will also have a high laminated wood ceiling and a large window area to provide views over the Guadalhorce valley. The swimming pool could, if all goes well, be ready in the spring of 2010.
