The economic crisis, combined with excess production, means that the price of hams is being reduced, good news in the run-up to Christmas.
The Christmas period is traditionally the time when around 60% of total ham sales for the year takes place and in many places, the price per kilo this year is less than it was last year. The lowering of prices is helping to boost sales.
Once the Christmas period is over, producers will assess the market and decide whether or not it is necessary to reduce prices even more to stimulate sales.
