A total of 131 flights have so far had to be cancelled at Madrid-Barajas airport this morning due to the adverse weather conditions, with 67 outgoing and 64 incoming flights affected.
Airport staff have been working through the night to remove ice from runways and to test for sufficient friction to enable the successful operation of the braking systems on planes.
As well as cancellations, there are delays to some flights and passengers are advised to check with the airport to ascertain departure times.
