Demolition of old barracks in Ronda

The demolition of the old ‘La Concepción’ army barracks in Ronda is going to cost in the region of €300,000, a figure much higher than expected.

The Council reached a preliminary agreement with the Ministry of Defence to take over the old barracks and demolition work will commence in January.

The extra costs involved are due to the fact that the building is in very poor condition and because the roof contains materials which require special handling and disposal due to pollutants.

The Council was given a choice with regards to the building, either pay €4 million for it or arrange for the Patronato Militar Virgen de la Paz to be included as residential land under the new PGOU. In the latter case, the barracks would cost nothing and the demolition costs would be covered under the second ‘Plan Zapatero’.

Plans for the land, an area of 5,000 square metres, include a parking area for 600 vehicles and possibly, in the future, a new Town Hall.
