More than 17,000 people in Jaén province have been without running water since the evening of Christmas Day after a pipe was ruptured during the storms.
The recent storms caused the río Guadiel to overflow and this in turn caused the rupture of one of the main supply pipes from the El Rumblar reservoir.
The affected areas include Cazalilla, Jabalquinto, Mengíbar, Villatorres, Torrequebradilla and Villargordo. The supply was cut at around 19:40 on December 25th.
The authorities have been ferrying water to the affected areas using six tankers while technicians try to repair the damage to the pipe, located in the section carrying water between Cerro de la Toscana and the local water deposits. Work, however, is being hampered by deposits of mud in the area.
