As from today, Monday, the sale of cigarettes and tobacco will once again be permitted in newspaper kiosks.
Four years ago, when the new smoking and tobacco laws came into force in Spain, the sale of tobacco was permitted in newsagents but, inexplicably, banned in the numerous newspaper kiosks. This led to the closure of many of the traditional kiosks.
After numerous protests, petitions and much deliberation, Article 4 of the Ley Omnibus has been amended and tobacco returns to newspaper kiosks. It is hoped that this measure, although belated, will help these small businesses and prevent more from going under.
