Four youths died this morning in a fire in an apartment in calle Castillejos, Barcelona. Eleven others were wounded, eight of whom needed hospital treatment.
The fire began at around 04:00 in an apartment occupied by a woman and her daughter who were rescued via their balcony.
The fire then spread via the stairs and it is thought that the youths, all South Americans and aged around 20 years, were trying to escape from the fire when they were overcome by smoke.
Eight people were taken to the Hospital de Sant Pau Hospital Dos de Maig for treatment, three other victims were treated at the scene.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
