The first fatality of the new year as a result of domestic violence occurred on Sunday in the small town of El Cuervo, Sevilla.
A 53 year old man, Juan Manuel C.E., has been arrested as the alleged murderer of his wife, 45 year old Josefa R. Z.
Juan Manuel apparently called the polce and told them he had done ‘something bad’. When the police arrived on the scene they discovered the lifeless body of his wife. he was duly arrested on suspicion of murder.
Although known to have regular arguments, there was no history of complaints of abuse nor were any judicial orders in place relating to the couple.
The couple have two sons, aged 22 years and 26 years, both of whom live at home but were out at the time of the incident.
The Council has declared three days of official mourning for Josefa and has even cancelled the traditional celebrations planned for Three Kings, including the procession.
