Provisional estimates by the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries put losses in the agriculture and horticulture sectors as a result of the bad weather at around 30%.
Losses in the olive industry due to the exceptionally bad weather are put at around 30%. In horticulture, the excessive volume of water has, in some cases, resulted in losses of between 30% and 40%.
High winds have affected the greenhouses in Andalucia and frost has also resulted in around a 30% loss in the production of raspberries and blueberries.
The Central Government is expected to issue a Royal Decree relating to compensation and financial aid as a result of the abnormally bad weather which will be added to that already to be provided by the regional authority.
