The Sierra Nevada ski resort has had its best weekend of the season so far with 64 kilometres of pistes open and night skiing possible for the first time.
Cetursa, the operators of the ski resort, hope that a ‘new season’ can now begin after the closures experienced during the Christmas period due to constant bad weather.
Around 9,000 skiers took advantage of the improved conditions and 13 of the 22 lifts were in operation. The snow is up to three metres deep in the upper areas but temperatures are a little on the chilly side, down at minus 15 degrees in most areas.
Off-piste skiing is not currently recommended as there is a high possibility of avalanches.
