The Education Department of the Junta de Andalucía will today start distributing 173,000 laptop computers to pupils in the region under the Ministry of Education programme ‘Escuela Tic 2.0’.
The initiative has been described as ‘ambitious’ as the Government tries to provide equal access to new technology for the children of Andalucia regardless of the purchasing power of the families.
Computers have become an integral part of academic life and many pupils carry laptops to school in their rucksacks. As the laptop is now virtually indispensable, it has been decided to make it part of the educational supplies provided by schools and colleges.
The Ministry of Education has produced an informative brochure relating to the proper and correct use of the laptops and is encouraging parents to become involved in this new educational initiative.
Pupils in the fifth and sixth grades as well as those in ESO 1 and 2 will be the first beneficiaries of this new scheme.
