Vélez-Málaga Council is finally going to pay compensation to 18 residents in Torre del Mar as a result of noise pollution suffered between 1990 and 2003.
The residents of Edificio Ipanema in Torre del Mar brought a successful action against the local authority in connection with excessive noise from bars during a thirteen year period from 1990 to 2003.
The first ruling against Vélez-Málaga Council dates back to 2003, the residents subsequently being awarded €2.8 million compensation. The residents suffered noise levels of 120 decibels, the permitted level being 30 decibels.
The Council has already accumulated interest on its debt to the residents as a result of non-payment and is now negotiating with the residents to pay an annual sum until the full compensation amount has been discharged.
