Guardia Civil officers have rescued a missing snowboarder in the Sierra Nevada mountains, eventually locating him by means of the flash on his camera.
The snowboarder, a 27 year old from Sevilla, became separated from a group of skiers yesterday afternoon on the Aguila piste. The weather deteriorated and, when the resort closed, his friends alerted the authorities to the fact that he had not returned and a search was launched.
The missing man had wandered about four kilometres from the ski area and was found in the San Juan ravine. He managed to signal his position to the search party by setting off the flash on his camera.
Apart from a touch of hypothermia and hunger, the snowboarder was found to be in good health. After being given food and water by the rescue party, he was supplied with crampons in order to make the descent from the hill, arriving safely in Güéjar Sierra at around 03:30 this morning.
