Tomorrow sees the inauguration of the new boulevard in La Cala del Moral, Rincón de la Victoria, connecting avenida de Málaga with the Mediterranean highway via calle Tamadaba and the urbanisations de Hacienda Manila, Don Miguel and El Canario.
The old Paseo Filipinas will be renamed Francisco Arroyo after the mayor of Rincón de la Victoria during the Second Republic.
The project, costing €991,800 and financed by the Ministry of Industry, Tourism andTrade, has involved renovation and extension of the road which is now 25 metres wide and has two lanes in each direction.
The central area has gardens, palm trees and paths and there is now a roundabout at the southern end of the boulevard with a sculpture by José Casamayor. It is a stone boat measuring two metres by three metres.
Also included in the project has been renovation of the infrastructure in the area, improvements to the drinking water piping and various other items.
The project began in February 2009 with a completion period of three and a half months but, as generally happens, there were numerous delays for various reasons.
