The Supreme Court has upheld a prison sentence handed out to a chief inspector of the National Police by the Provincial Court in Almeria in a case relating to threats and extortion.
The officer was head of the Crime Prevention Unit and assisting with protecting victims of gender violence at the time of the incident which occurred in 2004.
On several occasions, the officer demanded sums of money from a woman who had denounced her husband for abuse. He demanded the sum of €18,000 and threatened to testify against her in divorce proceedings if she didn’t pay up.
