Togo, whose team bus was attacked by gunmen two days before the start of the African Nations Cup in an incident which left two people dead, have been banned from the next two competitions.
Not only have they effectively been banned for six years as a result of withdrawing from the competition, they have also been fined $50,000 by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
In the wake of the gun attack on their bus in Angola, the Togo team initially decided that they would like to continue in the competition but their government took a different view and they were ordered to withdraw for three days of mourning for the victims.
The CAF state this this amounted to government interference in sport. The Togo government is threatening legal action against the CAF over its decision.
