Car registrations for January were 70,130 units, an increase of 18% over the same month last year. However, the January 2009 figure was very low at 59,385 units following a 41% drop in registrations.
The Plan 2000E is credited with being a major reason for this increase in registrations. The industry is expecting the first half of 2010 to yield an increase in registrations of around 20%.
However, this could all change in the second half of the year when the Plan 2000E finishes and IVA rises by two points.
