The Minister for Innovation, the appropriately named Martin Soler, has inaugurated a new photovoltaic power facility in the municipality of Rioja in Almeria.
The plant, 25 hectares, will create 15 jobs and will supply power to around 10,000 people.
Photovoltaic solar energy is a way of obtaining electricity through photovoltaic panels that harness the sun’s radiation. With Almeria being the top province in Europe when it comes to the number of hours of sunshine, around 3,000 per year, it makes an ideal location for this type of project. In 2009, over €800 million was invested in renewable energy in Almeria.
