A gas leak caused alarm yesterday in Valdealanes, Antequera, although it was swiftly dealt with and there were no incidents, injuries or damage.
Council operatives first noticed the smell of gas and alerted the Fire Brigade and the police. A dozen homes and two storage rooms were checked and in one of them, a small natural gas leak was found.
Security forces cut the traffic in the area and established a perimeter, although the danger was described as ‘slight’. After closing the offending pipe, firefighters ventilated the area and diluted the gas with water to avoid any risk of explosion due to a build-up in a confined area.
The area remained sealed until the gas company arrived to fix the leak in the pipe.
