Three people were injured and a further six had to be evacuated from their homes as a result of a fire at an apartment block in Nerva, Huelva province.
The fire began at 00:30 on the first floor of a four storey building in the district of Garza and thick smoke necessitated the evacuation of all the residents.
One of the injured, a 39 year old man, was taken to the Rio Tinto Hospital and then later transferred to the burns unit at the Hospital Virgen del Rocío in Sevilla. The two other injured people, including a 73 year old woman, were treated for smoke inhalation.
Due to the damage caused by the fire and smoke, the residents were advised to find alternative accommodation for the night.
