The official foreign population of Vélez-Málaga already accounts for 15% of the population so the Council has established a Resident Service Office in Torre del Mar to support and assist the foreign community.
The office will eventually be housed in the new Tourist Office in Casa Bako, currently under construction, in Torre del Mar.
The new Foreigners Department, as it were, will provide help and support with such things as licenses, tax forms, Social Security and general information.
Although there are currently 11,222 foreigners registered on the census, the authorities believe that the true figure is more like 20,000 and their aim is to encourage all foreigners to register.
The largest foreign communities are:
- Moroccan – 1,433
- British – 1,323
- Romanian – 1,280
- Argentinan – 907
In total, over 100 different nationalities can be found in Vélez-Málaga.
