Two suspected ETA members have been arrested in Camprodon, Girona, near the border with Spain. A third person managed to escape custody.
The three people were discovered at a Guardia Civil control point near the French border. The arrests are thought to related to the detention of Ibai Beobide Arza, the ETA member capyured while riding his bike between the towns of Asteazu and Villabona in Guipúzcoa.
Ibai Beobide Arza was in Spain to form a network of collaborators and had only recently returned from France after fleeing there in 2008.
This follows the arrest the previous day of ETA suspect Faustino Marcos at the railway station in Portbou, also in Girona.
Faustino Marcos was armed, carrying false documentation and €6,000 in cash. Also in his possession was a laptop computer, five USB sticks, two external hard drives and numerous CD’s and DVD’s.
