Groups of unemployed youths will be hired in Jerez to assist in the clean-up of homes etc in the areas badly affected by the recent floods.
This is one of the measures adopted by the Junta de Andalucia to help alleviate the effects of the heavy rains in and around Jerez.
As from Monday, an office will open at the Town Hall where people can go to put in compensation claims for damage to their homes.
Technicians and engineers are also study measures to prevent the river Guadalete from overflowing in the future.
The President of the Junta de Andalucia, José Antonio Griñán, visited the affected areas. At one point, the president remarked that in some cases, the river must be ‘reclaiming its space’, a reference to illegal homes built on the banks of the river.
Eight roads remain closed in the area due to flooding. Further heavy rains are expected, possibly up to 115 litres per square metres in some places.
