The Junta de Andalucia has estimated damage to roads and farms in the Axarquia as a result of the recent rains at €2.6 million.
The delegate from the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Antonio Moreno Ferrer, has been meeting with the mayors of the Axarquia to inform them of plans for financial aid for agricultural infrastructure. A subsidy of €250,000 per municipality is being made available and the deadline for applications is March 2nd 2010.
The town most affected by the recent rains has been Vélez-Málaga as it has the highest number of rural roads, but damage has been widespread. As far as damage to crops is concerned, the olive has been the worst hit with production down by 30% to 40%.
