The number of complaints relating to excessive noise and failure to observe closing times against establishments in Plaza Tutti Frutti in Nerja fell by 34.5% during 2009.
The Council has adopted an inflexible approach to the question of noise pollution in and around Plaza Tutti Frutti, considered an important tourist attraction, and they believe that owners are finally getting the message.
In 2008, the number of penalties imposed on establishments in the area was 29, in 2009 it was 19. Last summer, one establishment was fined €6,000 and ordered to close indefinitely after it was found to have rigged the ‘noise limiters’. This club has since changed its name.
Two other premises were also ordered to close until adequate soundproofing was installed.
Complaints relating to noise in urban areas also fell during 2009, from 141 to 87.
