The last time the Blue and Whites won in Barcelona was in 1990, Málaga’s first season in La Liga, and they must now wait until next season to change that statistic after losing 2-1 on Saturday evening.
Although Barcelona enjoyed the majority of the possession, it wasn’t until the second half that Barcelona took the lead through Pedro with an excellent strike which easily beat the keeper.
But the Blue and Whites were not out of it and after a brilliant move, Valdo remained cool, calm and collected after breaking free and slotted the ball home to make it 1-1.
Messi is certainly a class player and was a handful all over the pitch and in a way it was only fitting that he scored the winner, albeit a rather dubious one. The Málaga defence broke the cardinal rule of ‘play to the whistle’ as two, possibly three Barcelona players were offside and paid the penalty as they raised their arms and looked for a free kick.
It never came and Messi put the ball into the back of the net and Barcelona claimed the three points.
