Nerja Council is hoping to persuade the Larios Sugar Company to transfer lands occupied by two sixteenth century sugar mills to the municipal authorities so that both can be restored.
The two sugar mills in question are the San Antonio Abad, near the entrance to Nerja, and one in Maro, both of which are currently in a state of ruin.
From the sixteenth century, these are the oldest sugar mills in the municipality and the Council would like them to be restored. The Councillor for Urban Culture, Angélica Portillo, has already spoken to Larios about the San Antonio Abad mill and made known the Council’s desire to renovate the site.
