The Mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, has stated that there is no urgency to introduce a new PGOU (General Plan) as the municipality still has the possibility to construct 2,500 units under the current PGOU which dates back to 2000. It would be another matter, he added, if like Fuengirola they had run out of land upon which to build, but they haven’t.
The Municipal Government was announcing the approval of a plan to build in the area known as El Romeral. The proposed new development consists of 144 residential homes, including 28 VPO (subsidised) dwellings for young people.
El Romeral covers an area of 50,520 square metres of which 15,166 square metres is allocated for building.
The new draft PGOU was drawn up in 2005 but has yet to be finalised and approved at the various levels of administration.
