Ryanair is set to close four of its six routes from Granada airport as from May 4th due to the excessive costs charged by the airport authority.
The airline had offered to increase its operations in Granada to generate 50,000 more passengers and create 50 new jobs at the airport in exchange for a reduction in airport charges. However, the authorities in Granada refused the offer, which now means the loss of 400,000 passengers and 400 badly needed jobs.
Flights from Granada to and from Madrid, Barcelona, London (Stanstead) and Liverpool will cease on May 4th 2010. Passengers already having made reservations will offered refunds or an alternative flight from a different airport.
Ryanair in Granada grew by 10% during 2009.
