Damage to one of the waste pipes in Tarifa, Cádiz province, has led to the dumping of significant amounts of residual waters along the shoreline near Los Lances beach.
The pipeline was built in 2004 and dumps sewage about one kilometre out to sea. The Council has requested urgent assistance from the Junta de Andalucia and the Central Government to resolve the issue.
The Council is worried that the presence of raw human waste close to the shore could endanger the ‘blue flag’ status of Los Lances beach and are even concerned that the area might have to be closed for water sports during Easter.
